Duck-Billed Platypus Taxidermy
This is a REAL antique duck-billed platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) taxidermy mount! This incredibly rare taxidermy was part of the Prehistoria Natural History Centre museum collection but has been made available to the public to raise funds for other specimens. The mount measures ~18" long and worldwide shipping is available!
Excluding the kangaroo, the Platypus is likely Australia’s most iconic animal. These egg-laying (monotreme), venomous, mammals were so bizarre that the first specimens studied were written off as fakes!
Though they still face environmental and habitat related challenges, their population was once at serious risk from over-hunting by the fur trade. Today, conservation efforts have proven to be quite successful and they are still relatively common in much of their range.
