Ancient Greek silver drachm Solar Eclipse coin for sale! Dating back between 4th-3rd century BCE, these Istros, Moesia coins are theorized to reference a solar eclipse that took place on October 4th 434BCE!

The faces on this coin are Apollo, one head inverted. That morning, around 6:30am local time, the eclipse occurred just a few degrees above the horizon. The crescent would have appeared to invert in shape during the progression of the eclipse, which may be why Apollo is shown in both orientations.

The reverse shows a Sea-Eagle with its talons locked into a dolphin.

This coin weighs ~5.3g and we can ship these worldwide!
