Cradleboarded Mayan Skull (Ex-Museum)
Real, Ancient Mayan, cradleboarded human skull for sale!
Dating back between 2000 BC–1697 AD, the Ancient Mayan Civilization was largely located in what is now Mexico.
These peoples practiced cranial modification (cradle-boarding) on their infants to create abnormal skull development. This would typically be done between 1-6 months after birth when the human skull is most pliable.
It is theorized that according to local religion and beliefs, the altering of a child's head could have been to symbolize a higher status in society, a better connection with the spirit world, or that it could "enhance" the function of the brain.
This skull was on display at the Prehistoria Museum but has been deaccessioned to raise funds for our operating costs and expansion.
This skull can be shipped worldwide, anywhere the ownership of human osteology is legal.
**Please note: We do not take the ownership of human remains lightly, and neither should you. These are not simply "oddities", they were once living people and deserve to be treated with respect and appreciation for what they are and who they were. We have the right to refuse sales to anyone, or any organization, we suspect would not honour these specimens with the dignity they deserve.**
